Old Lemuria had fallen, and An’Kra Shasta was heartbroken to see her people flailing desperately to gain purchase on their new world. She, and a band of loyal followers, struck north into the mountains to find shelter and resources to build their world anew. 
The rugged terrain made advancement difficult, and when the temperature plummeted, they were forced to seek sanctuary in a cave deep within the mountains. 

With no rations left to sustain them, Shasta led the group in a communal brumation. As their bodies coiled in the dark, without beginning or end, so did their collective consciousness. They became untethered, caught in the celestial current and drawn to D’zaera and her egg of creation. The seasons cycled, and when the frost once again hardened the earth, they awoke to the world.

They found Shasta curled in the center of their nest, frail and pearlescent. Her pigment had been lost with her molted scales. She whispered of each scattered shard she beheld as the egg shattered in multiple permutations. With her dying breath, she begged them to follow each one – to stand witness to the loss and birth of D’zaera.

D’zaera’s Witnesses remain hidden and devoted to their calling. The Shields of D’zaera are the chosen few selected to protect them. They provide for their enclave as swift and daring hunters. As cunning and manipulative agents, they smother any knowledge of their kindred on the continent. And when need be, they silence any threat with ruthless precision.
